Agrometeorologist Malawi Department of Agricultural Extension Services Lilongwe NORCAP

Norwegian Refugee Council · Lilongwe, Malawi · Deadline: 08 Nov 2026

Grade: Professional · Schedule: Full time

NORCAP works to improve aid to better protect and empower people affected by crisis and climate change. We do this by providing expertise and solutions to humanitarian, development and peacebuilding partners, because we believe working together is the best way to reduce needs, risks and vulnerability over time. We seek and promote more effective ways of working at the global level and in the field. NORCAP’s aim is not only to reduce needs, but also to create choice and opportunity for vulnerable people. NORCAP works with and through our partners to improve aid in two complementary ways:

• We provide targeted expertise to strengthen our partners’ response.
• We collaborate with partners to develop solutions to unmet gaps and challenges.

Through its partnership with the Malawi Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension Services (DAES), NORCAP is supporting efforts to strengthen the use of climate information services to improve agricultural resilience and food security for smallholder farmers across Malawi.

The Department of Agricultural Extension Services (DAES) leads the dissemination of climate-smart advisory services, technologies, and weather forecasts to farming communities throughout the country. Working closely with national and international partners, DAES plays a key role in helping farmers adapt to climate variability through accessible, locally relevant climate information and extension support.

This role is central to delivering NORCAP’s commitment to strengthening climate resilience and supporting communities affected by climate-related risks through improved access to actionable climate information.

The Role

As Agrometeorologist, you will provide technical leadership and capacity strengthening to improve the production, interpretation, communication, and use of agrometeorological information across Malawi. Success in this role will mean more accessible and actionable climate information, stronger collaboration between climate and agriculture institutions, and improved decision-making by extension services and smallholder farmers.

This is a full-time position based in Lilongwe, Malawi, with an initial deployment of 12 months and the possibility of extension. The role will support the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension Services (DAES) and contribute approximately 10% of time to NORCAP climate services project activities.

The Agrometeorologist Expert will be expected to deliver the following:
